Which type of leather is right for you, and how do you care for it properly?

In our selection, we offer bike products made from three different types of leather. So you have the choice between:

• Goat leather,
• Cowhide leather, and

The Gusti Leather bicycle collection made of Goat leather is crafted from smooth leather. At first, these bike bags and accessories are usually a bit stiff, but they quickly become more supple and soft with regular use and proper care. To ensure you enjoy your Goat leather items for a very long time, we particularly recommend beeswax-based care products, as these form a protective film over the entire surface, shielding the leather from dirt and moisture while also replenishing its natural oils.

Products made of Cowhide leather or Buffalo leather, on the other hand, are more robust due to their slightly thicker material and are therefore also somewhat more durable than bike bags and accessories made of Goat leather. After some time, however, these leathers also feel softer overall. When it comes to care, you should definitely pay attention to the texture of your item, as suede generally requires a different type of care than smooth leather.

For bike bags, handlebar tape, and similar items made of smooth leather, products that both re-grease the leather and form a protective film on the surface are particularly suitable. Therefore, care products based on leather creams, leather lotions, leather balms, or leather greases are ideal.

Products made of suede, on the other hand, should be brushed up from time to time with a special brush or a plastic sponge to prevent smooth patches from forming over time and to remove any dirt. Avoid using liquid care products, as suede does not tolerate moisture. However, a waterproofing spray can be used to protect the surface of both suede and smooth leather.
